In a recent interview with Sportime Magazine, Tamás Rozina, Vice President of World OCR, addressed the current direction of the sport and the importance of clearly distinguishing OCR and Ocrathlon from other competition formats that include obstacles as technical elements, including UIPM’s Obstacle
The interview outlines several important aspects within the current international governance shifts that are happening within obstacle sports. As different organizations and disciplines include obstacle-based elements in their competition systems, World OCR is focused on building a clear and independent sporting framework for OCR and Ocrathlon.
Under World OCR, “OCR” is no longer functioning as a generic descriptor for obstacle course racing. It is being developed as Obstacle Cross Running: a refined, more dynamic, and clearly defined evolution of the sport, supported by specific standards, competition rules, athlete pathways, and international governance. Within this framework, Ocrathlon is emerging as the star format of the World OCR International Federation. Combining running, functional strength elements, and technical obstacles, Ocrathlon reflects the direction of World OCR’s sporting vision: spectator friendly, accessible, and oriented at grassroot sports development.
