A major milestone has been reached for the development of both Hungarian and international OCR as a sport. Over the past few weeks, the first batch of OCR-specialized students at Eszterházy Károly Catholic University in Hungary successfully defended their theses and passed their final examinations. Through institutional cooperation, Eszterházy Károly Catholic University and the prior Hungarian OCR Federation (HOCRA) have jointly created a unique higher education program unlike any other in the world. As a result, six students successfully completed their final examinations and defended their theses.
The university-level qualification fills a significant gap on the international level, providing a significant benefit to the global OCR sports communities. The BSc degree enables graduates to conduct higher-level sports science research and contribute to the expansion of international OCR literature.
The national and international professional framework continues to grow, as an agreement has been reached between Hungary’s two OCR governing bodies – HOCRA and MAFUSZ (affiliated internationally to World OCR) – to integrate their educational systems. The university program will of course continue!
These new professionals will ensure that both youth development programs and adult sports benefit from the highest standards of academic knowledge and professional expertise.
